What is it?
Botox is a product made from purified proteins. It acts by blocking nerve transmission, which results in relaxation of the underlying muscles, helping to smooth fine lines and wrinkles.
What are they used for?
Botox does not fill space or add volume. Instead, it relaxes muscles. This helps prevent them from contracting, which smooths out lines and prevents further etching of wrinkles. Botox is also very effective in treating hyperhidrosis (excess sweating), migraines, and TMJ pain.
Areas often treated include:
- Horizontal forehead lines
- Frown lines
- Fine wrinkles on bridge of nose (bunny lines)
- Eyebrow shaping
- Crows feet
- Lipstick lines or smoker’s lines
- Marionette lines
- Gummy smile
- Chin creasing/pebbling
- Nasal tip elevation
- Nasal flaring
- Masseter reduction
- TMJ treatment
- Axillary hyperhidrosis
- Necklace lines
What can I expect?
Results are typically seen within 3 to 7 days and generally last between 3 to 6 months. Lines that are deep may only be softened, while lines that are mild to moderate in depth may be erased after several treatments.
Possible side effects can include a headache, flu-like symptoms, bruising, nausea, and hypersensitivity reactions. About 5% of patients report transient eyelid or brow droop, or eyelid swelling. This may last 2 to 4 weeks and in rare instances may last 3 months or greater. Even more rare complications include shortness of breath and anaphylaxis.
- Nursing, pregnancy, or attempting to become pregnant.
- Allergy to eggs, albumin, or any component of Botox or Dysport.
- Active injection at the injection site.
- Concomitant use with muscle relaxers or aminoglycosides.
- Defer Botox treatment for at least 2 weeks after receiving vaccines such as tetanus or the flu shot.
- Those with known neurological diseases such as ALS, myasthenia gravis, Lambert-Eaton syndrome, neuromuscular junction disease, uncontrolled diabetes, or significant cardiovascular disease.
What should I do after my treatment?
Refrain from exercise, receiving a facial, or massage for 24 hours after receiving Botox®. If you experience an adverse effect, please contact us.
Juvederm® Dermal Fillers
What are they?
The Juvederm® family of fillers are products composed of hyaluronic acid, a naturally occurring substance that, in the skin, forms the fluid matrix in which collagen fibers are embedded. The amount of hyaluronic acid in the skin decreases with age, resulting in loss of volume, increased wrinkling, and reduced dermal hydration. With the use of dermal fillers which also absorb water, we can restore that volume loss to enhance one’s appearance. The goal is to return your features back to where they were 5 to 15 years ago, while maintaining a very natural look.
Areas often treated include:
- Smile lines (nasolabial folds)
- Lip lines or marionette lines
- Lip sculpting
- Lip augmentation
- Cheek augmentation
- Chin augmentation
- Under-eye filling
- Midface volumizing
- Jawline contouring
- Earlobe rejuvenation
- Hand rejuvenation
- Treatment of scars
- Temporal augmentation
What can I expect?
A consultation is required for all patients to address the area(s) of concern, review medical history, and estimate how much product is needed to restore volume. Product is sold by the syringe. Most patients will use 1 to 3 syringes depending on the amount of volume loss and the area(s) being treated. Results are typically seen immediately but may take up to 72 hours to see the full effect, and results typically last 6 to 12 months.
Dr. Yavari can utilize a non-traumatic flexible blunt tip needle for the safe injection of all types of fillers. This technique allows the volumization of the face and lips and the filling of lines, using a limited number of insertion points to treat the whole face.
Pregnancy, Breastfeeding, history of severe medication allergies or anaphylaxis, active infection such as cold sore or shingles in the treatment area, uncontrolled diabetes, history of allergy to gram-positive bacterial proteins, or use of anticoagulants (such as Coumadin, Plavix, or Pradaxa)
What should I do after my treatment?
- The area can be iced for 30 minutes.
- To decrease the likelihood of bruising, apply arnica montana topically or take it orally.
- Refrain from strenuous activity, sun exposure, or tanning for 24 to 48 hours.
- Do no massage the treatment for 6 weeks unless instructed to.
- Refrain from having a facial for 6 weeks.
- Refrain from laser or intense pulsed light treatment for at least 2 weeks.
- Chemical peels and waxing may be performed after inflammation at the injection site has resolved.
You might be wondering what PRP-fibrin is, and how is it different from regular PRP? There is only one elemental difference, and that is the activation of the PRP.
What is “activated” PRP?
It is a boosted version of PRP (platelet rich plasma), so it helps produce better results. Much faster than if Dr. Yavari were to inject pure PRP without the activator. To create the fibrin matrix from the PRP, a small amount of calcium chloride is added to the PRP that is obtained from your own blood. That chemical reaction speeds up the conversion of fibrinogen, so that not only is the product more viscous and Dr. Yavari is able to direct where it is deposited, but it is locally delivering those growth factors exactly where we need them. This is what promotes production of new collagen, fat cells, and blood supply.
Here at Arktos Direct Care, Dr. Yavari uses PRP-fibrin injections in one of two ways:
- As a stand-alone treatment injection, your body’s healing factors in fibrin form are injected strategically into various areas of the face to counteract the natural deterioration of the skin and soft tissue that inevitably each person will experience. Depending on the location, Dr. Yavari will use a microcannula which can lessen the side effect of bruising.
- For the patient needing a much more robust volumizing effect, but also has superficial skin deflation, Dr. Yavari offers the paired PRP-fibrin injection with the appropriate hyaluronic acid filler. This is essentially a “double-decker” approach to restoring the degeneration of both superficial soft tissue as well as the receded deeper layers of tissue.
How long does it last?
PRP-fibrin injections (aka Platelet Rich Fibrin Matrix) entraps growth factors and releases them over 7 days. Studies have found the effects can last up to two years. That’s quite impressive, and further shows how our bodies can reverse damage.
Who is the right client for these PRP-activated injections?
— This is a truly universal treatment suitable for patients in their late 20s and older.
Younger patients who are interested in both maintaining and stimulating the body’s natural cell renewal cycles, will find this treatment to be crucial in avoiding the more expensive and tedious job of fully correcting the loss of collagen after it’s gone.
— More mature patients who wish to address the loss of suppleness and firmness to their skin, and have noticed increased laxity of the skin along with more creases, would certainly benefit from this treatment in both correction and regression of the aging-skin process.
The treatment is used throughout the body. Some of the more specific uses that Dr. Yavari finds particularly exciting is in reducing the appearance of acne scars. The result using PRP-fibrin matrix is a better option that using classic hyaluronic acid fillers because the PRP stimulates the growth of new skin cells, causing the dermal thickening needed to achieve that smooth texture of skin. Another popular use for PRP therapy is to reduce under-eye discoloration or hollows. The fibrin matrix is an effective treatment in reducing darkness, and it also adds volume which can help smooth hollows and minimize those fine wrinkles. The PRP treatment in this area truly restores a more youthful appearance to the eyes.
What are some common side effects I can expect from the treatment?
The most common side effect is soreness in the area of the injection, with surrounding bruising or discoloration around the skin where the PRP injection was done. After a few days, those side effects settle. In fact, the swelling you see is an essential part of the healing process that assists in the success of the treatment. If you have a tendency to bruise easily, you may notice darker or purplish marks.
When you come in for your consultation for PRP therapy, Dr. Yavari will screen you carefully to assess whether or not you are a good candidate. The series of questions are designed to identify allergies and other medical conditions that would disqualify you to receive the treatment.
How much does it cost?
Activated PRP-fibrin injections start at $1600. This includes up to 8 ml of activated PRP.
Adding dermal fillers to the activated PRP-fibrin adds the cost of the fillers as well. Filler Prices Here.
What is it?
Microneedling is also known as collagen induction therapy and is an effective anti-aging procedure that creates controlled micro-injuries, which trigger the remodeling of collagen and elastin. It is minimally- invasive and is one of the gentlest ways to dramatically improve the appearance of your skin. Using multiple microscopic needles to penetrate the top layers of the skin, Skinpen® creates very small wound patterns to break old collagen chains. This triggers the healing process to create new cells that are tighter and softer over time. It smooths the appearance of wrinkles, scars, and stretch marks. For the ultimate skin rejuvenation, pair the microneedling treatment with your own platelet-rich plasma.
What can I expect?
Healing times may vary, though most patients see results in one day to a week after treatment. Immediately after treatment, you may notice a red appearance in the areas treated or in rare cases pinpoint bleeding. Just one treatment can dramatically enhance the appearance of skin texture and brighten your complexion. More advanced skin conditions like acne scarring may need more than one
session. The number of treatment sessions required will be determined during your consultation with Dr. Yavari.
- Active acne
- Herpes labialis (cold sore) or any other local infection such as a wart
- Moderate to severe psoriasis or eczema
- Blood dyscrasias, patients on anticoagulant therapy
- Extreme keloidal tendency
- Patient on chemotherapy or radiation
What should I do after my treatment?
Continue to treat the skin gently for three days after microneedling. Use a gentle cleanser and tepid water to cleanse the face, always make sure your hands are clean when touching the treated area. Avoid Clarisonic or other powered cleansing brushes. Use a chemical-free sunscreen, and if possible please avoid intentional direct sunlight for these first days after the procedure. You can resume your normal skincare routine after day 3 post-treatment. If you experience any adverse effect, please contact us.
Not all microneedles are the same!
SkinPen® is the ONLY FDA cleared and legally marketed Microneedling Device in the United States. SkinPen® is a medical grade device with adjustable lengths and disposable straight needles to penetrate at a 90-degree angle, and allows for differences in skin thickness and skin types. It is the only U.S.-engineered and manufactured microneedling device on the market, with single use, sterile needle cartridges.
At Arktos Direct Care, we always put your safety and health first and foremost. We have peace of mind knowing that you are being treated with a safe, superior device that we can trust.
Microneedling with Botox® Infusion
You might be thinking, wait a minute, isn’t Botox only injected and not infused?
With the use of the SkinPen® which creates thousands of microchannels into the dermis, Dr. Yavari is able to permeate the very layer of the skin that is in charge of the production of oil glands and sweat glands. Add Botox and… presto, glowing magic.
The microneedling device generates collagen, while the Botox shrinks the dermal elements (think of blackheads and whiteheads), creating poreless looking skin. The Botox paralyzes those oil glands for a few months and helps manage cyclical acne that is often seen in combination-type skin.
Dr. Yavari can treat any area of the body using this technique, either an entire region or focus the Botox infusion in a specific problem area (such as the T-zone of the face).
Consultations are always free.
Microneedling with PRP Infusion
With the use of the SkinPen® and the technology of harvesting your body’s own healing properties, Dr. Yavari is able to dramatically improve the texture of your skin.
Your blood is full of platelets that contain growth factors which can help with wound healing. By concentrating those platelets through an in-office procedure we can create platelet-rich plasma (PRP).
That PRP, or “liquid gold” is processed from your blood draw in the office using PRP kits specifically designed to reach the desired concentration of PRP for maximum benefits.
The microneedling device creates thousands of microchannels directly into the dermis where your fibroblasts are capillaries are working. By infusing that layer during the treatment with PRP, Dr. Yavari is essentially bringing those concentrated growth factors that your dermal layer needs to regenerate and revitalize itself.
By targeting the outer layer of skin with PRP, your body’s own growth factors do the all healing and restoration.
Microneedling with PRP is essentially the fountain of youth.
Kybella is a PERMANENT FAT DISSOLVING solution to a heavy neck/jawline. UNLIKE Botox® or dermal fillers, this treatment is permanent. Your results depend on the amount of excess fat you have under your chin. Most patients begin seeing results 3-4 weeks post-injection.
After Dr. Yavari assesses the treatment area, she will mark and grid the anatomic target zone. This process ensures equal delivery of the Kybella, so there is no risk of contour irregularity. The treatment area is subsequently numbed with a few injections of lidocaine to ensure there is no pain or discomfort from the Kybella treatment. An ice pack is applied while the numbing medicine takes its effect. After a period of 5-10 minutes, Dr. Yavari injects Kybella to the area of interest. This is a virtually painless process. Ice packs are reapplied for 5-10 minutes. The Kybella permanently destroys the fat cells.
How Many Kybella Treatments Will I Need?
Most patients generally require 3-4 treatment sessions about one month apart to see their optimal results. In subsequent treatments, patients usually experience substantially less swelling and bruising than the first round of treatment. Patients also notice improved contouring and skin tightness in the neck as each treatment continues.
The most common side effects include:
- Areas of hardness in the treatment area
What is PRP?
PRP or Platelet Rich Plasma is the liquid part of blood (plasma) that has been separated from the red blood cells and white blood cells and concentrated with a higher proportion of platelets than would normally be found in blood. Platelets are typically thought of as being important in the clotting of blood. However, they also contain large amounts of growth factors. These growth factors have a significant role in healing tissues after injuries. PRP can dramatically increase the concentration of platelets in the plasma and therefore increases the amount of growth factors as well.
How is PRP created?
PRP is made by drawing blood from a patient and then using a centrifuge to separate the different parts of the blood. The plasma and platelets are drawn up and then plasma is removed until the desired concentration of platelets is achieved. Typically, effective levels of platelets are between 5 to 7 times the concentration found in normal blood. This highly concentrated plasma is then used for injection or other treatments in the same patient.
How does PRP work?
The increased concentration of platelets, and therefore growth factors, have been shown to speed up and enhance the bodies natural healing process. Using targeted injections of PRP, we can stimulate healing to occur exactly where it is needed. PRP is often referred to as regenerative medicine due to it’s ability to promote the body to heal tissues.
What can PRP treat?
PRP is emerging as an effective treatment for a variety of problems. Most traditionally, PRP has been used to treat sports and musculoskeletal injuries. Ligament and tendon strains are common uses and many professional athletes have turned to PRP to help speed up recovery from injuries that used to be reserved to medications, physical therapy or surgeries. PRP treatments have been shown to be effective for joint pain due to osteoarthritis or wear and tear injuries that may typically require steroid injections or even surgery as well.
But, that’s not all. PRP is often times being used for more cosmetic reasons as well. Treating the skin with PRP therapy can greatly reduce wrinkles, scars, and imperfections and help promote collagen repair that helps bring out the more youthful looking skin. PRP also has been shown to be very effective in promoting hair regrowth for problems with baldness or thinning hair.
PRP at Arktos Direct Care.
At Arktos, we use PRP in a variety of ways. Dr. Hampton uses PRP as an enhancement to prolotherapy treatments for various musculoskeletal problems and also as targeted joint injections for pain from osteoarthritis. Dr. Yavari will often recommend PRP with microneedling procedures for a variety of skin issues. This treatment has become very popular and is sometimes referred to as a “PRP facial” or “golden mask”.
Not all Platelet Rich Plasma is the same!
Rebound PRP Kits from Enso Doctors (Platelet Rich Plasma)
At Arktos Direct Care, we have spent a lot of time researching the best options and systems to offer our patients the most effective PRP treatments available.
Whether you’re seeing Dr. Hampton for prolotherapy injections or Dr. Yavari for aesthetics, you have the confidence of a PRP processing system that is above and beyond.
PRP extraction systems concentrate the elements of your blood that trigger regeneration and repair. It involves extracting your own blood, spinning it down to get rid of the red blood cells and concentrating the remaining plasma, platelets, and other growth factors to create that “liquid gold” to be used. It is important to note that to deliver effective treatment results, the concentration of platelets must reach around five to seven times the patient’s normal baseline levels.
We exclusively use Rebound PRP kits from Enso Doctors. These kits allow us to deliver optimal platelet concentrations that have been scientifically validated. This allows use to achieve the desired concentration of platelets compared to normal blood. It’s this concentration that gives our patients great results.
What should I do before my PRP procedure?
We ask that you drink lots of fluids before the procedure to stay hydrated, it makes it easier for the doctor to draw your blood. Other than that, there are no other preparations needed. You can eat and drink normally. If you are having a prolotherapy with PRP procedure with Dr. Hampton, please discontinue using any NSAIDs like naproxen (Aleve) or Ibuprofen (Motrin) for 2 weeks before your PRP procedure
