Osteopathic Manipulative Treatment
Dr. Hampton uses a variety of hands-on methods to help diagnose, treat, and prevent injury. His diverse techniques promote improved movement in different muscles, joints and fascia, which helps to alleviate pain, promote healing, and increase mobility. The principles of treatment focus on restoring the body’s form in order to improve its function.
Utilizing Osteopathic Manipulative Treatment (OMT) is important because it is able to complement or even replace medications or surgery often used in standard medical care. This can help to reduce overall healthcare costs for the patient.
During your treatment, you will learn different techniques you can use at home to help maintain your health between sessions.
Before your treatment:
- Do not eat a heavy meal.
- Do not drink large amounts of fluids.
- Dress comfortably in workout type clothing for your appointment.
- Please inform Dr. Hampton if you have been diagnosed with osteoporosis or have any recent fractures.
OMT Evaluation
The OMT evaluation is an extensive exam done with Dr. Hampton. It allows him to evaluate the musculoskeletal system and address any areas you may be having problems with.
Typically, most patients are seeking out OMT due to some problems with pain or dysfunction of the body. However, often times people not currently in pain can benefit as well to determine if there are any areas that could be improved, whether for athletic performance or prevention of injury.
The evaluation is an extensive look at the physical body and can typically last 40-60 minutes. Dr. Hampton will keep a specific musculoskeletal record with areas of normal function and areas of dysfunction to refer to for future treatments.
It is helpful to wear comfortable shoes and non-restrictive clothing.
